The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) is a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, (artists of all skill levels and art enthusiasts) have been sharing their knowledge.
Our activities include:
Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs.
We meet at the Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street (Route 25).

On Wednesday June 11, 2025 at 7:30pm, Dick McEvoy will be demonstrating a palette knife painting in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday June 25, 2025 at 1:30pm, Melody Asbury will be demonstrating painting an animal in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday July 9, 2025 at 7:30pm, Lorraine Skelskey-Chapin will be demonstrating painting flowers in acrylics. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday Julu 23, 2025 at 1:30pm, Robert Lenz will be demonstrating how to simplify a landscape in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level).
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
