For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) has been a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, artists of all skill levels, and art enthusiasts have been sharing their knowledge of a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs. Members also receive several exclusive benefits detailed on our membership page.
We meet in the historic Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street
(Route 25).
Friday April 5, 2024 until Friday May 24, 2024, 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday at Art & Frame, 77 Main Street in Newtown, CT . All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday April 10, 2024 at 7:30pm, Katushka Millones will be demonstrating mixed media painting with cold wax. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Saturday April 20, 2024 from 10am to 3pm, Roberta Shea will be offering a workshop on Manet's florals. In this workshop students may work in any medium and will work from floral bouquets. This workshop is for all experience levels. For registration instructions, please go to the Education page. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . On Wednesday April 24, 2024 at 1:30pm, Heidi Harrington will be demonstrating painting a portrait. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday May 8, 2024 at 7:30pm, Stephanie Birdsall will be demonstrating a painting. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday May 22 24, 2024 at 1:30pm, John Munno will be demonstrating how to photograph our art work. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level).
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
