The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc.

For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) has been a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, artists of all skill levels, and art enthusiasts have been sharing their knowledge of a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs. Members also receive several exclusive benefits detailed on our membership page.
We meet in the historic Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street
(Route 25).
On Saturday November 4, 2023 at 10am to 4pm, Chris Ivers will be offering a one day workshop. This workshop is for all skill levels and will be held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). To register, send in see Education Page on this website for instructions.
On Wednesday November 8, 2023 at 1:30pm, Diane Rogers will be demonstrating. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Saturday November 18, 2023 at 10am to 3pm, Roberta Shea will be offering a one day workshop. This workshop is for all skill levels and will be held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). To register, send in see Education Page on this website for instructions.
On Saturday December 2, 2023 from 10AM to4PM, SCAN Member's Small Works Show will be on Exhibit. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday December 6, 2023 at 1:30pm, Katy Despot will be demonstrating a pastel portrait. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
January 5 through February 29, 2024 from 8AM to4:30PM weekdays, the Color in Winter Show will be on Exhibit. This event will be at The Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street in Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level).
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
