The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) is a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, (artists of all skill levels and art enthusiasts) have been sharing their knowledge.
Our activities include:
Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs.
We meet at the Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street (Route 25).
Friday January 10, 2025 until Friday March 21, 2025, weekdays from 8AM to 4:30PM. This event will be at The Newtown Municipal Center 3 Primrose St., Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
During the month of February SCAN will be doing a painting a day with its members. Please join in with your art and view what other SCAN members have shared on Facebook.
On Saturday Februrary 8, 2025 from 10am to 3pm, Adele Moros will be will be offering a workshop on composition. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). Registration is required. Registration and payment for this event is on the Education Page.
On Wednesday February, 26, 2025 at 1:30pm, Doreen O'Connor will discuss her plein air set up and will paint a landscape in acrylics. This event will be at the Newtown Municipal Center 3 Primrose St., Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
On Saturday March 8, 2025 from 10am to 3pm, Jill Nichols will be will be offering a workshop on Clouds as an essential ingredient in any landscape painting This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . On Saturday March 22, 2025 from 10am to 3pm, Lenny Moskowitz.will be offering a workshop on exploring landscapes through a variety of media, including collage, mixed media, and paint (acrylic or watercolor). This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT . (Lower Level). Registration is required. Information for this event is on the Education Page.
On Wednesday March 26, 2025 at 1:30pm, Randy Carboni will be demonstrating his ink and watercolor process. This event will be at the Newtown Municipal Center 3 Primrose St., Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level).
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
