The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc.

For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) has been a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, artists of all skill levels, and art enthusiasts have been sharing their knowledge of a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs. Members also receive several exclusive benefits detailed on our membership page.
We meet in the historic Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street
(Route 25).
On Tuesday January 3 through Monday February 27, 2023, from 8AM - 4:30 pm weekdays, in the Newtown Municipal building, Newtown, CT . All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday February 22, 2023 at 1:30pm, Zufar Bikbov will demonstrate painting a nocturne in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Saturday March 11, 2023 from 10am to 3pm, Roberta Shea will be giving a workshop on Impressionism. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). Cost $70. Registration instruction are on the Education page.
On Wednesday March 22, 2023 at 1:30pm, Susan Grisell will demonstrate painting a still life in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Saturday April 1, 2023 through Wednesday May 31, 2023 to be held at Art and Frame , 77 Main Street in Newtown, CT. Prospectus available on the exhibit page.
On Wednesday April 12, 2023 at 1:30pm, Eudes Correia will demonstrate painting a figure in watercolor. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday April 26, 2023 at 1:30pm, Alain Picard will demonstrate a landscape in pastel. This event will be at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level).
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months held at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown, CT (lower Level). All are welcome and admission is free.
