The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) is a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, (artists of all skill levels and art enthusiasts) have been sharing their knowledge.
Our activities include:
Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs.
We meet at the Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street (Route 25).


January 9 through March 20, 2026, 8am to 4:30pm weekdays. Show is held at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose St, Newtown CT. All are welcome and admission is free.

On Wednesday March 25, 2026 at 1:30pm, Frank Bruckman will be demonstrating a portrait in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street in Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 1:30pm, Zufar Bikbov will be demonstrating in oil. This event will be at The Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street in Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, 10 AM – 3 PM (with a short lunch break), SCAN is having a Pastel Still Life Workshop – Harmonies in Broken Color with Fang Sullivan. This event will be held at Art & Frame, 77 Main St, Newtown, CT. Prior registration with fee, required. See Education Page for information.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Now held at The Newtown Senior Center 8 Simpson Street, Newtown, CT.
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months Now held at The Newtown Senior Center 8 Simpson Street, Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
