The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc.

For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) has been a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, artists of all skill levels, and art enthusiasts have been sharing their knowledge of a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs. Members also receive several exclusive benefits detailed on our membership page.
In the best interest of our members, SCAN asks that anyone participating in any SCAN activities (such as classes, Open Studio, art workshops and demonstrations)
is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
We meet in the historic Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street
(Route 25).
April 1 – May 26, 2022 to be held at Art & Frame 77 Main Street (Rt. 25) Newtown, CT. Reception & Awards Ceremony Saturday, April 2, 2022: 6 - 8 PM Awards Presentation: 7 PM.
On Wednesday May 11, 2022 at 5:00pm, Anda Styler will will present a demonstration / critique using acetate entitled “How to Transform Your Painting Using Acetate”. Demonstration will be at The Newtown Library on Main Street in Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
On Wednesday May 25, 2022 at 5:00pm, Jacqueline Jones will will demonstrate painting water Lillies in oil. Demonstration will be at The Newtown Library on Main Street in Newtown, CT. All are welcome and admission is free.
On Friday May 27th 10:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday May 28th 10:00am to 6:00pm. Reception on Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, SCAN is sponsoring an Art fundraiser to benefit Jose's Andre's World Kitchen's relief efforts for Ukraine, at Art & Frame 77 Main Street (Rt. 25) Newtown, CT.
Painting and drawing studio sessions, the first three Wednesdays of the month from 1pm to 4pm. Fee: $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members. Held at the Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson St, Newtown, CT 06470. Fully vaccinated participants.
In Person Demonstrations
Two sessions (an evening & an afternoon) during most months
