Who We Are
Providing education, encouragement and experience in the visual arts
For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) has been a non- profit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts. For more than half a century SCAN members, artists of all skill levels, and art enthusiasts have been sharing their knowledge of a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.
Our activities include:
- Twice-monthly art demonstrations featuring professional artists during most of the year
- Several Art Show & Sale events each year
- Classes & Workshops with practicing artists
- Informal “Drop-in” sketch sessions with models and other educational opportunities
- An Open Studio for members
- Awarding scholarships annually to outstanding graduating seniors who have been accepted at an art school
- Annual trip in the Spring to visit art events & places of interest in the Metro New York area
- Other art-related activities throughout the year
Each month we publish SCAN INK, a newsletter for our members, which provides complete details about our programs. Members also receive several exclusive benefits detailed on our membership page.
We meet in the historic Newtown Meeting House at the Flag Pole, 31 Main Street
(Route 25).
