SCAN was founded in 1971 by Larry Newquist with seven other artists to fulfill a cultural need in Newtown and surrounding communities. SCAN has met continuously since then and now has members from all over Western Connecticut and the Hudson Valley of New York.
SCAN is managed by a Board of Directors and five officers: president, vice-president, treasurer, recording secretary and membership secretary. At our annual meeting each May, members receive a report of the previous year's activities and vote for next year's officers.
SCAN is a non-profit organization registered under 501(c)(3) rules with the IRS, and, therefore, is able to accept tax-deductible donations.
