This fun, hands-on one-day workshop is great for all levels and explores the broken color technique, developed by the Impressionists, to create vibrant, lively subjects without smudging. Elevate your pastel skills to the next level—by the end of the workshop, you’ll be confidently using pastel color layering and mixing techniques to bring your still lifes to life and develop your own artistic style. Bring your pastel —any soft pastels and/or NuPastel sets, with primaries and a full range of values, any toned pastel paper, and a curious heart. No oil pastels please.
Join us for our next workshop on Saturday, April 18, 2026, 10 AM – 3 PM (with a short lunch break), This event will be held at Art & Frame, 77 Main St, Newtown, CT.
Fee: Members: $95.00, Non-members: $125.00
Bring your pastels, ground paper and a lunch.
Prior registration with fee, required.

One of the greatest obstacles artists have is fear of making a mistake. Together in this spring workshop we will explore the fundamentals of abstract painting without the fear. Using plants you will be guided through informational drawing exercises that explore the basics of value, color, line, shape and composition while making concrete intuitive decisions. Through liberating exercises in mark-making, and layering, you will discover the peace and confidence of finding your own creative expression. You will learn to trust the process and become engaged in the act of painting as a way to express your feelings at that moment about the plant. Bring canvases or canvas boards and your paints and brushes.
